EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS
Gi Gyn started her practice litigating and advising on disputes relating to shareholders, commercial and construction contracts, as well as intellectual property infringement. She subsequently changed her focus of practice to corporate advisory and transactional matters at a large regional law firm in Malaysia, and has experience on corporate advisory matters across a wide spectrum of sectors including private healthcare & pharmaceutical, F&B and retail, hotel & tourism, financial services and technology.
Gi Gyn is experienced in foreign direct investments into Malaysia including advising on the establishment of corporate vehicles, governance issues (such joint ventures, share option schemes and shareholders agreements), regulatory compliance, exchange control rules, trade policies, investment protection and incentives.
Gi Gyn represents listed and private companies in group restructures and business expansion within the ASEAN+6 countries through cross-border mergers and acquisitions, where she handles due diligence, negotiation and drafting of agreements pertinent to sale and acquisition of businesses or assets, private placements, takeovers and equity structuring. Her recent transactions include advising on a proposed investment in a group of companies in Sri Lanka; advised a Malaysian company on a group restructure in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and Australia; and advising a Singapore company on a business acquisition in Malaysia.
Gi Gyn has advised tech companies on launching disruptive platforms, drafted e-commerce contracts and managed legal risks relating to digital businesses, e-payment systems, fin-tech and digital currencies.
Gi Gyn is also passionate about startups, emerging companies and social enterprises. In 2016, she spearheaded a legal incubator and forged partnerships with various accelerators to support startups and emerging companies in navigating legal risks while providing creative problem-solving solutions.
Gi Gyn graduated with Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from University of Northumbria, United Kingdom in 2007. She was called to the Bar of England and Wales as Barrister-at-Law by Lincoln’s Inn in 2008 and subsequently admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2009.
